I’m eager to be part of your school or library visit, writing workshop, conference, keynote, festival, and other book-ish events!

Events & Visits

I offer both in-person and virtual visits on a variety of topics, including the writing process, the publishing process, forging a creative career, and the influence family and culture have had on my work. I also love leading students through craft workshops so they can leave empowered to create their own stories.

About my presentations …

For pre-k – grade 2 (approximately 35 minutes), an interactive read-aloud, a Q&A session, and a book-related activity.

For grades 3 – 6 (approximately 45 - 60 minutes), presentations center around storytelling, craft, and the creative writing process. They offer opportunities for students to write and share their work.

For middle school and high school students (approximately 60 minutes), small-group writing workshops and presentations on the journey of publishing and forging a creative career.

For undergraduate and graduate programs (approximately 60 minutes), these workshops may cover representation in children’s literature, the art of crafting picture books (fiction, non-fiction, biographies, and concept books), writing stories with heart, creating memorable characters, an overview of an author's publishing journey, where authors find inspiration, pros & cons of self & traditional publishing, how to get representation from a literary agent, what makes a good query letter, how to submit to editors, and more.

In addition to being a children’s author, I’m also a career coach and professional resume writer with over a decade of experience in operations, human resources, recruiting, personal branding, and career advising. I have led in-person and virtual workshops for folks aged 17+, covering a range of topics. Such as:

  • crafting a plan of attack for your job hunt

  • identifying what interests you

  • nourishing a rich inner self

  • increasing your mental fitness

  • combating limiting beliefs

  • balancing your everyday responsibilities, passions, and work to lead a fulfilling life
